M-VAVE MATRX vs Zoom Neurig – NAM modeler comparison 2026

Two of the most talked-about guitar modelers right now both run NAM (Neural Amp Modeler) captures: the M-VAVE MATRX, unveiled at Music China 2026, and the Zoom Neurig, announced in October 2026. Both promise to take your TONE3000 captures out of the computer and onto the floor. But they're very different machines, at different prices and on different timelines. Here's how they compare on paper, and which one makes more sense for you.

Note: neither unit has been tested by us yet. The MATRX specs and price are announced or reported but not final. The Neurig is available to pre-order now. We'll update this comparison with hands-on impressions.

Quick answer

  • Choose the Zoom Neurig if you want a compact, affordable NAM pedal you can buy soon, with practice features like Bluetooth play-along, a looper and stem separation.

  • Wait for the M-VAVE MATRX if you want a bigger floor workstation with full NAM A2, two NAM models at once, a 7" screen, mic inputs for vocals and a battery for a whole gig.

NAM: full A2 vs A2 Lite

This is the biggest technical difference. The MATRX is announced with native NAM A2 support and can run two NAM models at once, which is great for stereo or dual-amp rigs. The Neurig uses NAM A2 Lite, a lighter format designed for pedal-sized hardware. A2 Lite sounds very close to full NAM, but some sources note it can lose a little detail.

The Neurig balances that with Zoom's own DNA neural amps, which according to Zoom keep responding to the gain and EQ knobs like a real amp. NAM captures can't do that, because they freeze an amp at one setting. Not sure how NAM captures work? Read our Neural Amp Modeler guide.

Size, price and availability

The Neurig is the practical choice. It costs around €349, it's small enough for a gig bag, and you can pre-order it now. The MATRX is a bigger, more ambitious unit. Its reported price of about US$599 is still unofficial, and reports point to a 2027 release. If you need a NAM modeler for the next few months, the Neurig is the only one of the two you can order today.

Live use and vocals

For live players, the MATRX looks stronger on paper. It has a bigger screen, more footswitches, two effects loops, XLR outputs and two mic inputs with phantom power, so a singer-guitarist could run voice and guitar through one unit. Its 12-hour battery claim is also unusual for a floor modeler. The Neurig has four footswitches and a single loop, which is enough for many gigs, but it's clearly more of a compact pedal than a full live workstation.

Practice and home use

For practice, the Neurig wins. You can stream songs over Bluetooth, remove the guitar part with stem separation in the app, loop ideas for 45 seconds and play on battery from the sofa. The MATRX focuses more on stage and studio features.

Which one should you choose?

  • Zoom Neurig: home players, students and gigging guitarists who want an affordable NAM pedal now, with practice features built in.

  • M-VAVE MATRX: singer-guitarists, players who want full NAM A2 and dual NAM rigs, and anyone who prefers a bigger floor unit and doesn't mind waiting.

  • Neither? If you just want great amp captures in a tiny box, see our TONEX One review (IK's own captures rather than NAM) or the budget Valeton GP-5. If you want a premium floor unit, see Helix Stadium vs Helix Floor.

Verdict

These two pedals show where guitar modeling is heading: NAM captures on the floor, without a computer. The Zoom Neurig is the smart buy for most players right now. It's affordable, compact, available and packed with practice features. The M-VAVE MATRX is the more ambitious machine, with full NAM A2, dual NAM, vocals and a big screen. If its final price and sound live up to the announcements, it could be worth the wait. We'll update this page as soon as we can test them.
